CD Replication and the Advantages of CD's
For over 25 years, the CD (compact disc) has been one of the most widely used methods for distributing software, information, promotional materials, music, and media. CD's have a storage capacity of 650MB and are one of the most reliable and versatile forms of media. CD's are also compatible with most types of computer and audio hardware, making them ideal for mass distribution.

High Quality CD Manufacturing
Despite a relatively simple process that goes into manufacturing, duplicating, or replicating CD's, great care needs to be taken by the manufacturer to ensure that quality and consistency between discs. We produce CD's that are considered among the best in the disc manufacturing industry and consistently earn complete customer satisfaction.

CD Replication Materials and Process
Our pressed discs have a polycarbonate layer into which tiny depressions, referred to as 'pits' or 'data tracks', are pressed down by a precision stamping process during manufacturing. These pits contain the information, or data, that is unique to that specific disc as specified by the client. Once the layer has been created, the polycarbonate is coated with a very thin layer of aluminum. This layer makes the CD reflective, so that the laser in the CD player can read it. The aluminum layer is then coated with a durable clear coat to protect the disc from oil, dirt, dust, and other particles that could harm it. At this point, the CD is ready for use. When one of the discs is placed into a CD player, a laser scans the disc and converts the pattern of scanned pits into information or music. After all layers are complete, the disc goes through a rigorous quality control procedure. This testing makes sure that the disc meets the exceptional high standards set forth by the industry.

CD Artwork, Packaging, and Fulfillment
Once the discs have been pressed, layered, and tested, artwork is then silk-screened to the top side of the disc, which is the non-readable side of the CD. We use high quality printing techniques to make each disc look attractive and easily identifiable. Once the artwork has been applied, final preparations are made for packaging and/or shipment and delivery of the discs to the client.

We maintain the highest level of quality control throughout each step of the CD replication and manufacturing process, while maintaining fast turnaround times and competitive pricing.

DVD Replication Materials and Process
The DVD manufacturing process is very similar to that of the CD. There are, however, two main physical differences between the CD disc and the DVD disc. First, the DVD pits or data tracks are smaller than those found on CD's (0.44 microns versus 0.83 microns in diameter). Second, the data tracks of the DVD are closer together than those on a CD (0.74 microns apart for the DVD versus 1.6 microns apart for the CD). Consequently, even though the DVD is virtually the same physical size as the CD, the data spiral of the DVD is over two times as long as the CD, allowing more data to be stored. In addition, DVD's that have higher storage capacity, such as the DVD-9, have two clear polycarbonate layers containing data tracks. These clear, plastic layers are coated with a thin reflective layer covering the pits. Aluminum is used behind the inner layers, but a partially reflective and semi-transparent coat is used for the outer layers. This enables the DVD player laser to focus through the outer layer and onto the inner layers.

DVD Artwork, Packaging, and Fulfillment
After pressing the DVDs, each layer is then coated with adhesive, bonded together, and then cured under UV light. For single-sided discs, the label is silk-screened onto the non-readable side. Double-sided (DVD10) discs only have art/text printed near the center hole, where no data is stored. Once the artwork has been applied to the disc, the DVD is ready for packaging and ultimately delivery to the client. Mediatec, Inc. also provides these packaging and shipping services.

DVD Replication and the Advantages of DVD's
DVD (Digital Versatile Disc) is the current standard in optical disc storage technology for most industries. DVD's are able to hold video, audio, and computer data and offer a much higher storage capacity than CD's.  Similar to how the CD revolutionized the music industry, the DVD brought big changes to the home video and video rental market. In only three years from its introduction to the market, the DVD became the most successful consumer electronics product of all time. This is due to the fact that DVD delivers stunning video resolution, high-end audio performance, high capacity storage, speed, quality, and overall versatility. Much like CD's, DVD's are ideal for mass distribution because of their near-universal compatibility with disc-based electronics.

There are numerous DVD formats offering a range of storage capacities. The three most common types are as follows:
DVD-5: One side, with single layer of recording (4.7GB)
DVD-9: One side, with dual layers of recording (8.5GB)
DVD-10: Both sides, with a single layer of recording (9.4GB)

Our technical experts will help you choose which type of disc is most logical for your needs. In some cases, multiple discs may be preferred over a higher capacity disc, or vice versa.
